Propagating: one cutting, ten plants

Amara Keita · Jul 18, 2026 · 5 min read

Before you buy your tenth pothos, look at the one you have. A single stem in a jar of water becomes a whole new plant.

Cut below a node

The node — that little bump where a leaf meets the stem — is where roots grow. Cut an inch below it, keep two leaves, drop it in water.

Patience, then soil

Roots in two to four weeks. When they're an inch long, pot it up and keep the soil damp for the first week.
